About Africa By Lusso

Meet the Africa team

All of our travel advisors have been recruited for their enthusiasm, professionalism and detailed knowledge of the industry. Most have been working in travel for 20 years or more and all regularly return to the destinations and properties within our portfolio, meaning you can be assured of first-hand, in-depth and up-to-date knowledge to pass on to your client.

Operations Director Mark Hibbert

Mark’s first role in tour operating was with an Africa specialist almost 30 years ago and although his career has taken him away from selling Africa directly, his love for the continent has always remained.

“Featuring this amazing product in depth has been part of our plan for Lusso since the company’s inception in 2009,” explains Mark. “It’s only our utter respect for the destination that has delayed our official launch into the continent until now. I truly believe we have the product and the specialists to do justice to this unbelievable destination and am grateful to everyone who has helped us on our journey.”

  • Favourite destination?

    Zimbabwe and South Africa.

  • Favourite park or reserve?

I love little-known Lake Kariba, located in Zimbabwe along the border with Zambia. The lake is known for its spectacular sunsets and is home to one of the highest populations of hippo and crocodile in Africa.

  • Favourite lodge or hotel?

Tongabezi Lodge, set on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia, or Sausage Tree Camp, also on the river in Zambia, in Lower Zambezi National Park.

  • Fondest memory?

There are too many to mention but negotiating hippos while canoeing the Chifungulu Channel, one of the most spectacular sections of the Lower Zambezi, must be near the top the list. Other highlights include the first time I heard the roar of Victoria Falls, and some exceptional game viewing in the private reserves that border Kruger National Park in South Africa – places like Sabi Sands, Thornybush and Timbavati.

  • Top tip?

Take lots of layers while on game drives, including a warm hat and snood. That way you can peel layers off as it warms up in the early mornings and put them on after sundowners as you set off on night drives and the temperature starts to dip.
