Meet the Africa team

All of our travel advisors have been recruited for their enthusiasm, professionalism and detailed knowledge of the industry. Most have been working in travel for 20 years or more and all regularly return to the destinations and properties within our portfolio, meaning you can be assured of first-hand, in-depth and up-to-date knowledge to pass on to your client.

Head of Africa Zoe Carroll

Having started as a Saturday girl at an independent travel agency in Leeds at the tender age of 16, Zoe has over three decades’ experience in the industry. Her love affair with Africa began with a trip to Zimbabwe while working for a specialist tour operator.

“As soon as my feet hit African soil I knew I had come home,” remembers Zoe. “I love different parts of Africa for different reasons. Cape Town, for example, with Table Mountain behind and the Atlantic Ocean out front, is my favourite city in the world. But my heart will forever belong to Zimbabwe.”

Another of her favourite destinations is Zambia. “I was lucky enough to work for a while at bush camps in the South Luangwa Valley, where walking safaris were first pioneered. It’s hard to describe the thrill of tracking animals on foot in their natural habitat, away from the noise of vehicles. There’s no better way to bring the African bush to life.”

Returning to the UK, Zoe ran her own representation company specialising in southern Africa before joining the Lusso family. “Handling both sales and product, I now get to do a bit of everything I love most – crafting bespoke itineraries from beginning to end for agents and their clients, and hand-picking the properties we work with in Africa.”

  • Favourite destination?

Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Kenya and Botswana.

  • Favourite park or reserve?

    South Luangwa Valley, Zambia.

  • Favourite lodge or hotel?

Jack’s Camp on the Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana or Elsa’s Kopje in Kenya.

  • Fondest memory?

Sleeping out under the stars on the endless salt pans of Botswana. Or fulfilling a lifetime’s ambition of seeing aardvark in the wild at Tswalu, South Africa’s biggest privately owned game reserve.

  • Top tip?

Leave the vehicles behind and opt one day for a walking safari. Creeping up on foot to a herd of buffalo or lying by a riverbank watching elephants bathe is a spine-tingling experience that makes vehicle safaris seem dull by comparison.
