Meet the Africa team

All of our travel advisors have been recruited for their enthusiasm, professionalism and detailed knowledge of the industry. Most have been working in travel for 20 years or more and all regularly return to the destinations and properties within our portfolio, meaning you can be assured of first-hand, in-depth and up-to-date knowledge to pass on to your client.

Managing Director James Weaver

James’s first trip to Africa was in 2003 when he visited South Arica and instantly fell in love with the destination.

“Arriving into Cape Town and catching sight of Table Mountain for the first time was a jaw- dropping moment,” recalls James. “With its amazing food, golf, dramatic scenery and incredible wildlife, I knew it was a place I’d be returning to often.”

Yet despite his love for South Africa, it was neighbouring Namibia that played host to James’s biggest African adventure yet.

“In 2019 I spent two weeks riding a motorcycle through Namibia. The wilderness at times was truly staggering to behold, particularly along the Skeleton Coast, where shipwrecks and whale bones litter near-endless beaches.”

  • Favourite destination?

    South Africa.

  • Favourite park or reserve?

Etosha National Park in Namibia. During the dry season, herds of big game converge to drink at waterholes beside the dry and dusty salt pan, making Etosha an ideal place to park up and let the wildlife come to you.

  • Favourite lodge or hotel?

Shipwreck Lodge on Namibia’s wild and windswept Skeleton Coast. With just ten guest cabins hunkered down among the dunes, it’s the perfect place to drop off the grid.

  • Fondest memory?

Being in South Africa for the World Cup 2010. The country was buzzing and the atmosphere was simply incredible.

  • Top tip?

In high season it’s best to pre-book the restaurants you want to dine at and the excursions you want to do, especially in Cape Town. And if Robben Island is on your list, I recommend booking a walking tour with a specialist guide; you’ll learn so much more about Mandela that way, the great man known to most South Africans simply as Madiba.
