A relaxed camp and exclusive 'camp within a camp' set on a lush palm island in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta.
Situated in a private concession in the northern Okavango, Shinde was one of Botswana's first luxury safari camps but was lovingly rebuilt in 2020. Set on the edge of the Shinde Lagoon, its seven classic safari tents are luxuriously appointed and feature indoor and outdoor showers and spacious viewing decks overlooking the floodplains. There's also a two-bedroom family tent with a shared bathroom. Three of the seven standard tents form Shinde Enclave, the 'camp within a camp' - an exclusive retreat catering for up to six guests, complete with butler, housekeeper, private guide and vehicle.
The camp's main area is built in a 'treehouse style' with indoor and outdoor dining areas, lounges and a fire deck beneath ebony and mangosteen trees, with beautiful views of the permanent lagoon and the wildlife that comes to call.
Shinde can offer both land- and water-based activities year-round, with guided walks, mokoro excursions and night drives available in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Fishing is also available throughout the year (with exception of January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing tigerfish from September to mid-November.
Set on a lush palm island on a private concession in the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is located on the edge of the Shinde Lagoon, which teems with animal and birdlife. Access is via a scheduled flight from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Maun or from Johannesburg to Kasane, followed by a light aircraft flight to Shinde’s airstrip and a five-minute drive to camp.
