Within the exclusive MalaMala reserve, lies MalaMala Rattray’s Camp, a bastion of colonial elegance and a tribute to the pioneering age.
The MalaMala Game Reserve is one of the largest private Big Five reserves in South Africa and shares an unfenced border with the southern part of Kruger National Park. Rattray's Camp is the most luxurious of the MalaMala camps, a throwback to luxury colonial Africa, but with wildlife prints, paintings and photographs on the walls where hunting trophies once might have hung. The eight spacious suites boast spectacular views of the Sand River, as well as private plunge pools, outdoor showers and raised wooden decks from which to watch the wildlife that frequently visits the river on your doorstep. Game drives are normally kept to a maximum of four people per vehicle (among the smallest in South Africa), while camp facilities include a large infinity pool, massage service, beautifully appointed library, elegant dining room, traditional reed boma for meals around the campfire, and an historic bar featuring photos from the reserve's colonial heyday.
MalaMala Rattray’s Camp is in the eastern sector of the Sabi Sands Reserve on an extensive private concession. Federal Air operates a twice-daily shuttle service between Johannesburg and the reserve's private airstrip, which is a ten-minute drive from camp. SA Airlink operates daily direct air services from Cape Town and Johannesburg into Skukuza Airport in the Kruger National Park. Skukuza Airport is a one-hour road transfer from MalaMala Game Reserve. SA Airlink also operates daily scheduled flights from Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, which is a 2.5-hour road transfer from MalaMala Game Reserve. For self-drive guests, Shaw’s Gate is the closest to the lodge.
