One of Africa's most iconic camps, situated in the heart of the Makgadikgadi salt pans and steeped in 1940s campaign history.
This legendary camp was completely rebuilt in 2021 but pays homage to the old-world glamour and 1940s campaign style that won it such acclaim among safari aficionados the world over. The new guest tents, seven twins and two doubles, are much larger than before. Interiors feature Persian and north African rugs, paraffin lamps, brass fittings, luxuriant textiles and mahogany campaign furniture. Bathrooms have both indoor and outdoor showers, while outside are wooden verandas and private plunge pools. The new larger mess tent houses a natural history museum, library, vintage 36-seat dining table (which formally served as an officers' mess table in the 1820s), a well-stocked drinks cabinet and an antique pool table. There's a Persian tea tent for post-safari refreshments and a swimming pool pavilion that's a true one-of-a-kind in Africa.
Wildlife in the area includes habituated meerkats, Kalahari lion, brown hyena, oryx, aardvark, porcupine, honey badger and bat-eared fox, while activities range from classic desert game drives and quad biking on the salt pans to bushman walks, meerkat visits and helicopter flights. Between November and April there's also the opportunity to witness the second largest zebra and wildebeest migration in Africa.
Jack's Camp is located in the Makgadikgadi salt pans in central Botswana.
