A remarkable owner-run safari lodge located high above the floor of the Great Rift Valley overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara.
Blessed with a jaw-dropping backdrop, Angama Mara - Swahili for ‘suspended in mid-air’ - is wildly romantic and offers arguably the best views of any property in the Mara. The lodge is divided into two adjacent camps, each with just 15 tented suites - all fronted by glass from one end to the other, with wooden decks that overhang the Mara, polished parquet floors, copper bathtubs and handsome drinks cabinets. Each camp has its own guest area, with an expansive deck hanging off the edge of the escarpment. Between the two camps is the Pavilion, where guests can make use of a gorgeous infinity pool, fitness room, photographic studio, safari shop, Maasai beading studio, and a map room with over 150 maps, the oldest dating back to 1608.
Guests wishing to take a walk on the wild side might prefer Angama Mara's sole-use tented camp, accommodating up to eight guests in four spacious en-suite tents. This exclusive mobile camp is sited deep in the Mara Triangle, putting you right among the mega herds during the annual Great Migration.
Angama Mara is located in the Masai Mara National Reserve on the edge of the Oloololo escarpment. There are scheduled flights from Nairobi-Wilson Airport to the Mara which take approximately an hour or slightly less. Angama Mara’s airstrip is located five minutes from the lodge. Private charters can also be arranged. The camp can also be accessed by road from Nairobi, which takes approximately 5-6 hours.
